SAM Registration
Sell Your Product or Service to the Federal Government
As you look to scale your business, don’t overlook the opportunity to work with the world’s largest buyer—the United States federal government. System for Award Management (SAM) Registration is required to become a vendor to the United States government and is a prerequisite to becoming a GSA verified vendor and provider of contract services to government agencies.
The U.S spent $597B in 2019e on commercial supplies and services across every industry. They also provide aid and support through grants, loans, and other financial assistance for small businesses and research organizations. To access these opportunities, SAM Registration for your business is mandatory.
As with all things government procurement, GSA Contract Pros is here to help your business navigate the programs and certifications that help you succeed, SAM Registration included.

What is SAM Registration?
SAM stands for System for Award Management. SAM Registration is the process of listing your organization with the U.S. Government so you can bid on small business government contracts and receive financial aid.
SAM is an invaluable resource for businesses in nearly every industry, in every size and stage. It is used by more than 26 government agencies to provide federal vendor opportunities and financial assistance, including grants, loans, and other programs.
Our team at GSA Contract Pros has the knowledge and experience to streamline the registration process on your behalf. We offer experience in procurement for the United States Air Force and Tesla and would love to help your business reap the benefits of government contracting.
What is the Purpose of SAM?
Think of the General Services Administration (GSA) Schedule as the Amazon.com for federal contracting. It allows you to post your product or service to a centralized directory where government buyers can purchase your items.
Federal SAM Registration is the process of listing your business with the GSA to become eligible to provide products or services as a vendor or to receive financial aid. SAM government Registration is the first step to accessing federal business development opportunities. To sell your product or service to the U.S. government, registration with SAM is mandatory.
How is SAM Used for Small Business Government Contracts?
As needs arise, federal agency buyers can filter all SAM Registered vendors by industry, location, socio-economic status, or by many other conditions. SAM has become a one-stop-shop for getting products or services in front of the federal agencies looking to purchase them.
How do I Create a SAM Account?
SAM Registration is a lengthy process that can be tedious, but don’t worry! We’re here to help! There are currently 17 pages of information needed to complete a business registration. While the benefits of SAM Registration are invaluable, most businesses dedicate 25-30 hours to complete the process. Once registered, annual renewal is required with special attention to maintaining compliance through ongoing regulatory changes.
Businesses can create their own SAM government registration, or contract with GSA Contract Pros and let our team of specialized experts handle registration and compile necessary CAGE codes, NAICS Codes, and Socio-Economic identifications.

Are SAM and GSA the Same?
Great question! This is one of the nuances of working with the government—understanding the subtle differences between divisions and agencies. GSA is the General Services Administration, which manages federal real estate and supports product and service contracts. SAM (System for Award Management) is a system used by G.S.A. to help businesses compete for contracts and become a vendor for the U.S. government.
What is a SAM CAGE Code?
CAGE stands for Commercial and Government Entity and a CAGE Code is required for every federal SAM Registration. The code is a five-character alphanumeric identifier that provides a standardized method of identifying a given facility at a specific location. CAGE Codes issued after August 26, 2016, expire after five years and must be renewed or reissued.
Does the Government Always Award Contracts to the Lowest Bidder?
Many people believe this, but it’s a common myth. The government doesn’t always award to the lowest bidder. Past performance is often taken into consideration during the evaluation process, so there’s no fear of having to undervalue what you offer.
